Flavia
Bento de Faria, Class of 2010, was born in
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has lived in many places
including Brazil, Portugal, Venezuela, Ecuador, and
most recently Argentina where she graduated from Asociacion
Escuelas Lincoln in Buenos Aires. She is not quite sure
what she wants to major in, but for now is working at
making the best of New York City and Barnard. She enjoys
going out to clubs, museums, and restaurants in the
city, and she never misses an opportunity to go shopping!
In addition to working at Admissions she also works
at the Barnard Student Store. Her plans for the remaining
years she has at Barnard are unclear, but they will
certainly involve meeting many new people and doing
a lot of traveling. |

Lauren Aliya Berger, Class of 2011, graduated from the Hathaway Brown School and grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. She plans to major in English, since she loves analyzing the wealth of books at her fingertips, and minor in psychology, because she also loves exploring human behavior. On campus Lauren is active in the theatre scene. She’s on the student board of the Columbia Musical Theatre Society (CMTS) and performed in shows with CMTS and the Barnard Theatre Department. Lauren is also a full time acting student at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in their Evening Conservatory. In her free time, Lauren can be found reading plays and books, roaming around museums, seeing shows, taking dance and yoga classes, and exploring the cool and funky neighborhoods of New York City. |

Eleonora Bershadskaya, class of 2010, was born in the Ukraine and raised in Brooklyn, New York, after age four. She graduated from Stuyvesant High School, which is located in the lively and trendy area of TriBeCa in Manhattan. Eleonora values Barnard's location in the extraordinary metropolis of NYC because of the plethora of cultural and intellectual opportunities available. She has been planning to major in political science, but is now considering fusing political science with Jewish Studies to pursue an interdisciplinary study of the political and cultural behavior of Russian Jews in America, an area of interest that is very close to home for her. Eleonora is also a pre-law student, but she has yet to determine her long-term aspirations. She is a very proud First-Year Focus Resident Assistant, and a student at the Aviv School of Jewish Leadership and Education in Brooklyn. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as learning, indulging in provocative conversations, and laughing. |

Wesley Birdsall, Class of 2010, is from West Hartford, CT, where she graduated from William H. Hall High School. She is a midyear transfer student from Boston University and is thrilled to be a part of the Barnard community. She is planning on majoring in psychology. Aside from her position as a BSAR, she currently works as a member of the Columbia Spectator copy staff and volunteers in a kindergarten classroom at P.S. 165, a nearby elementary school. Wesley can most likely be found exploring the city – taking advantage of its museums, restaurants, and everything else it has to offer. |

Reni Calister, Class of 2011, grew up in South Orange, NJ and attended Columbia High School. She plans on majoring in history with a minor in political science. Reni currently serves on the Student Government Association as the first-year class president and participates in the Columbia University Dance Marathon for the Elizabeth Glacier Pediatric AIDs foundation. In Reni's free time she can be found lounging on campus, finding free events throughout the city, going to theatres and museums, and finding the best cafes that New York has to offer. Reni loves Barnard, loves New York, and is extremely excited about everything. |

Emily Cheesman, Class of 2010, grew up in Maryland but currently hails from Long Island. She is majoring in art history (possibly minoring in psychology) and currently works at a contemporary art gallery in the Bowery arts district as a studio assistant . On campus, she is involved in the Bwog and in CU Players as artistic director. In her remaining years at Barnard she plans on studying abroad in London, India, or Venice, working at a museum in the city, and writing her first full-length play. In her spare time she goes to the opera and ballet, and teaches children's art classes. She has loved every minute of her time at Barnard so far, and looks forward to what the remaining two years hold. |

Aanya
Chugh, Class of 2009, graduated from the Canadian
International School of Bangalore, India. She was born
and raised in Chicago, IL, and San Francisco, CA, and
then moved to India. “ I wanted to get a different
cultural perspective on the way I view the world,”
says the freshman when asked why she made such a transition.
While in India, Aanya spent many of her weekends volunteering
at a government school. She currently designs graphics
for the Barnard Bulletin, is a part of the
McIntosh Activities Council, and volunteers for the
Community Lunch Program on Fridays. She hopes to major
in architecture and also plans to intern at one of New
York City’s well-known firms. |

Nelly
Davcheva, Class of 2010, is from Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
She graduated from The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor,
CT, and is currently exploring the art history world
at Barnard. Nelly loves to travel back home to Bulgaria
and visit friends and family all over the world. One
of her biggest passions is learning foreign languages,
and after mastering Spanish, she has moved on to her
fourth language – Italian. At school she is involved
with the Barnard Bulletin (as a photo editor),
takes many dance classes, and is beginning her exciting
journey as an Admissions Representative. Nelly is thrilled
to be living in New York City; dressing up for dance
shows and for the opera rank high up on her list of
favorite-things-to-do. |

Natasha Dhillon, Class of 2011, was born and raised in England and then moved to Delaware in 1999 where she graduated from Tatnall High School. She is considering a major in history, with a European or Asian concentration, and plans to study law after Barnard. She loves to travel, especially to Europe, and is hoping to study abroad in England. Natasha has a passion for dance and is member of a couple of dance teams including Club Bhangra and Dhoom, an Indian Bollywood dance troupe. She is very excited to be a BSAR and share her love of being a student at Barnard and also all the amazing opportunities of being a student in New York City. |

Elesse
Eddy, Class of 2009, hails from Hingham, Massachusetts,
a small town just south of Boston. She is currently
pursuing a double major in music and architecture. As
a transfer student, she is in love with Barnard and
New York City! In addition to her duties as a Barnard
Student Admissions Representative, she interns at the
Argento New Music Project and performs with the New
York Youth Symphony Singers. In her spare time she can
be found babysitting, reading, and attending as many
Broadway shows as possible. |

Melika Edquist, Class of 2010, was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. She transferred to Barnard as a sophomore, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While not abandoning her Midwestern roots, she absolutely loves being a Barnard woman and a New Yorker. Melika studies comparative literature and creative writing, though if it were possible she would also create at least ten other majors, including “Spontaneous Adventures in the City.” However, she finds that the best concentration at Barnard is a study in life’s simple pleasures: the Columbia steps, the Hungarian Pastry Shop, the lagoon in Central Park, her wonderful friends, and the New York street grid. She is passionate about social service and loves being as involved off campus as on. She is an active volunteer with various nonprofit creative educational organizations for children around Manhattan and Brooklyn and is a proud member of the Barnard Civic Engagement House. |

Anna Ehrlich, Class of 2012, was born in Ann Arbor, MI, where she graduated from Pioneer High School. As she is interested in the relationship between biology and psychology, she is considering a major in neuroscience and behavior. At Barnard, she is engaged in a training program which facilitates discussions between Jewish students and students of color. The program culminates in a spring break trip to New Orleans to help with the post-Hurricane Katrina relief effort. She is also an enthusiastic member of the Barnard/Columbia Swing Dancing Club and eager to start her new role as a Barnard Student Admissions Representative. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her fantastic friends, exploring different New York neighborhoods, and shopping. |

Dueaa Elzin, Class of 2011, is from Brooklyn, NY, where she graduated from Fort Hamilton High School. As of now, she is a potential political science major and pre-medicine student. She hopes to combine the fields of medicine and international politics/relations into a career that benefits the poor and underprivileged. She loves music, different cultures, reading The New York Times and New York City. Dueaa also loves to travel, especially back to Sudan, where her parents are from. As a BSAR, she looks forward to highlighting Barnard’s great academic atmosphere to all potential students. |

Anna Engel, Class of 2011, grew up in Los Angeles, CA and graduated from Yeshiva University High School of Los Angeles. After studying for a year in Israel, she is still exploring her options for a major, which may include anthropology, psychology, or English. Anna enjoys visiting her adopted bubbe (grandma), attending Hillel events on campus, and sipping lattes at Java City with her friends. As an avid Barnard fan, she is excited to share her love of the school with as many prospective students as possible! |

Judy
Estey, Class of 2010, came to New York from
the small city of Providence, RI, and is considering
majoring in dance. Last semester she worked as the advertising
manager for the Barnard Bulletin and
this semester is interning for Sugar Salon, the non-profit
dance organization sponsored by WAX and Barnard's Dance
Department. Other activities include frequenting coffee
shops and dance performances across Manhattan, shopping
with friends, and reading the arts pages of The
New York Times. Eventually, Judy hopes to return
to Ghana, where she spent a summer as a junior in high
school. She is thrilled to be a BSAR because she absolutely
loves her first year here at Barnard. |

Mollie Fox, Class of 2010, is from Rockville, Maryland where she attended Thomas S. Wootton High School. She is a double major in ancient studies and political science, but would like to work in education one day. Mollie is also involved in the dance program at Barnard and is a member of Orchesis, a student-produced dance group at Columbia. When she's not on campus, she can be found at her off-campus job teaching Hebrew School at a local synagogue, visiting the antiquities exhibits at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or trying out great restaurants around the city. Mollie loves everything Barnard and New York City have to offer and can't imagine attending school anywhere else. |

Giselle
León, Class of 2010, grew up in the
heart of New York City, Manhattan, and attended Hunter
College High School. She traveled to Spain for the first
time this past summer and spent a month there. She proclaims
it to be the most life-changing experience she has ever
experienced and would one day like to live there, although
she calls New York City her true love. She is interested
in majoring in psychology with a possible minor in Spanish.
She was elected Barnard 2010 class representative and
currently serves on the Student Government Association’s
2010 Class Council. She also participated in a First-Year
Reach Out community service project for RightRides for
Women this past September. Carrying on her passion for
acting and theatre, she is assistant directing a play
at Loyola High School this year. |

Amelia Linn, Class of 2009, is from Tallahassee, Florida where she attended Rickards High School, an International Baccalaureate school. She is a psychology major and environmental science minor. She has always been involved in dance on campus and has been a dancer and choreographer for Barnard’s student-run dance organization, Orchesis. Amelia just returned from a semester studying abroad in Madrid, Spain and loves traveling. She received a Barnard Internship Grant last summer to conduct animal behavior research on Somali wild asses and Grevy’s zebras at the Saint Louis Zoo. After Barnard, she is hoping to pursue a career in environmental policy. |

Miriam
Manber, Class of 2010, was born and raised
in Riverdale, NY (just a quick hop north to the Bronx
on the 1 train!). She is a graduate of the Ramaz Upper
School in Manhattan, and is tentatively planning to
major in English, with a minor in biology. Besides her
new job in the admissions office, she sings with S’madar,
an all-female a capella group dedicated to both Jewish
and contemporary music. Her great loves include musical
theatre, creative writing, good literature, coffee,
and New York City. |

Maggie
Marron, Class of 2009, is a graduate of West
Windsor-Plainsboro High School South in Princeton Junction,
NJ and plans to major in English and minor in architecture.
She arrived at Barnard as a mid-year transfer from
The Johns Hopkins University. She needed a change and
the idea of a college for women, in NYC, sounded perfect;
so far she loves it. Aside from working in Admissions,
Maggie is involved in the Armenian community on campus,
is a Barnard babysitter, and hopes to work as a literary
intern in a small theatre over the summer. |

Nicole
Matthews, Class of 2009, was born and raised
overseas until she moved to NJ in 2003 and graduated
from Dwight-Englewood School. Nicole transferred to
Barnard for her sophomore year and has been thrilled
with that decision. She is majoring in American studies,
as a way of understanding American culture as it relates
to American expatriates, as that’s what she used
to be. Nicole is unsure whether she will be pursuing
a higher degree in American studies or looking at graduate
programs for business after graduation. She has an extensive
background in music and working with children, both
of which she hopes to get involved with again in the
coming months. In Nicole’s free time she is working
to get Barnard’s new literary journal, Echoes,
of which she was appointed treasurer and layout editor,
up and running, and loves exploring what Barnard, Columbia,
and the rest of NYC has to offer! |

Elena
Mayer, Class of 2010, graduated from Lakeside
School in Seattle, Washington. She is tentatively majoring
in political science, and maybe economics. On campus,
she is the newest soprano in the co-ed Jewish a capella
group, Pizmon, is an SAT math tutor at the Double Discovery
Center, and is an active member of the Columbia University
College Democrats. She hopes to study abroad in French-speaking
Africa during her junior year. When she's not on campus,
Elena can most likely be found wandering around one
of the many incredible art museums in New York or picking
up student tickets to Broadway shows. |

Lora
Moftah, Class of 2010, is a native New Yorker
and a graduate of the NYC Lab School. She is currently
working on a combined major in middle eastern and Jewish
studies and hopes to do work in cross-cultural communication.
Lora enjoys participating in a variety of activities
on and off campus, including finding new places to eat
in the city and participating in Nar, Barnard’s
Middle Eastern Dance troupe. |

Lindsay Orlov, Class of 2011, has lived in a total of eight states, including Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas, Hawaii, Connecticut, New York, and South Carolina. Most recently, she is from Newton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, and she is a graduate of Newton North High School. Her intended major is psychology, with a possible double major in English with a writing concentration. When she is not studying or writing papers, Lindsay enjoys hanging out with her friends, babysitting for families in the area, and singing in the Barnard-Columbia Chorus. This past September, she participated in a First-Year Reach Out community service project at the Kraft Center. Lindsay loves Barnard and New York City and wants nothing more than to spread that love to prospective students! |

Dilruba Parveen, Class of 2011, is from Queens, New York. She graduated from the High School for Environmental Studies in Manhattan. She is planning to be an economics major. She is also very interested in South Asian history and hopes to somehow include that in her future plans. At Barnard, she is currently an official committee member of Club Dimensions and part of the Muslim Students Association, Club Bangla and Model UN. During her spare time Dilruba loves to spend time with her amazing Barnard friends, watch Bollywood movies, and visit her family. Dilruba is excited to be a BSAR. |

Michelle
Pelcovitz, Class of 2009, is from Great Neck,
NY. She graduated from Stella K. Abraham High School
for Girls. She is majoring is psychology and minoring
in American history. She hopes to pursue a higher degree
in clinical psychology after graduating. Having grown
up in a suburb of New York City, Michelle really knows
her way around (despite her terrible sense of direction)
and loves helping her friends from outside the New York
area get around and find fun and interesting things
to do in the city. She is a Peace by PEACE volunteer,
a member of the layout staff of the Barnard Bulletin,
and is also involved in the Columbia/Barnard Hillel. |

Leah Perlmutter, Class of 2011, was born in New York City but has lived in Seattle, Washington for most of her life where she graduated from Ingraham High School. She has not yet decided on a major but has recently become very interested in anthropology. She likes to attend and take part in events put on by the College Democrats. She has also become involved in Barnard's theatre department and is very exciting about the performance training she is receiving. In addition to Barnard theatre, Leah loves to make use of the College Activities Office and go to as many Broadway shows as possible. She also frequents the museums and restaurants that the city has to offer. |

Saranya Purushothaman, Class of 2009, is from Scarsdale, New York and graduated from Edgemont High School. She is a neuroscience major with a minor in art history. This summer Saranya hopes to pursue her passion for stem cell research through an internship at a laboratory in Italy. As a transfer student from Syracuse University, Saranya loves everything about Barnard, especially because it truly utilizes the city as its classroom. On campus, she is an RA for transfer students, volunteers at the emergency room at a local hospital, and is a member of the Columbia Raas Dance Team. In her spare time, Saranya loves to hop on the 1 train and explore the endless possibilities of NYC! |

Monica Qua Hiansen, Class of 2009, graduated from Canadian Academy in Kobe, Japan and is majoring in economics. She grew up in Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, China and the Philippines. On campus, Monica is involved with Liga Filipina and Columbia Japan Society. She has also done volunteer work at the pediatric wards of New York Presbyterian Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital. In her spare time, she likes to bake banana bread and see the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center. After graduation, she hopes to work in the non-profit sector. |

Lauren Rothe, Class of 2011, is from Morris Plains, New Jersey where she graduated from Morristown High School. She has not declared a major at Barnard yet, but she is very interested in biology and the arts (especially music). Lauren is also a pre-med student and hopes to go to medical school after graduating from Barnard. Lauren loves New York City and going shopping and appreciates that Barnard provides the opportunity for her to explore the city and interact with people that help her become a better person. Lauren knows that with hard work her dreams of becoming a doctor will come true. |

Katie Salmon, Class of 2011, is a native of Buffalo, NY and a graduate of The Nichols School. Her major is still utterly undecided but she thinks she might be interested in comparative literature, architectural history or statistics. In her free time, she works as a programmer in the classical music department at WKCR, Columbia University’s radio station, sings second soprano in the Barnard/Columbia Chorus, plays the bassoon in a woodwind quintet on campus and does crew. She loves Anglican choral music, Victorian literature, nineteenth century British photography, and doing crossword puzzles as opposed to homework in the evenings. |

Erica
Seldin, Class of 2009, graduated from Cherry
Creek High School in Denver, CO in 2005. She is a transfer
student from the University of Colorado at Boulder,
and, though she misses the beautiful Rocky Mountains,
she has fallen in love with the sights and sounds of
New York City. Now an enthusiastic member of the Barnard
family, Erica is pursuing a double major in Comparative
Literature and Human Rights. When she is not reading
books or trying to save the world, she is going on adventures
in the greatest city on the planet! Erica is extremely
excited to have the opportunity to share her experiences
and passion for Barnard with prospective students. |

Abbey
Stone, Class of 2010, is from Edgartown, MA
where she graduated from Martha’s Vineyard Regional
High School. While she has not yet declared a major,
she hopes to double major in English and Dance. On campus,
she is on the Executive Board for Orchesis, the student-run
dance group at Columbia, and is also an active member
of the Greek community through her sorority, Kappa Alpha
Theta. In whatever spare time she has, Abbey is out
exploring the city, seeing shows, and visiting museums.
While she misses Martha’s Vineyard’s beaches,
Abbey can’t wait to take advantage of all resources
New York has to offer, including finding a great summer
internship. |

Rebecca Tuchman, Class of 2010, grew up just across the Hudson River in Alpine, NJ. She graduated from the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester in Hartsdale, NY, making her one of the only people whose college is closer to home than her high school was. She is a Double Degree student with Barnard and List College of Judaic Studies, and serves as the Double Degree representative on the List College Student Council. She is an American Studies major at Barnard, and is deciding between majoring in Talmud, Midrash or Liturgy at List (though she’s open to suggestions). Rebecca has been involved in numerous activities on campus, including Koach (in Hillel), Take Back the Night, and Everybody’s Wins Power Lunch program. She hopes to spend a semester or summer studying in Prague her junior year. |

Connie
Wang, Class of 2010, went to high school in
the liberal suburb of Lexington, Massachusetts. She's
an economics major and has an unhealthy obsession with
environmental science. She'll be using her 2010 diploma
and classroom wisdom to solve third-world economic crises.
Until then, she is the business manager for Postcrypt
Coffeehouse, a folk music venue on campus, and pulls
all-nighters producing the Columbia Daily Spectator.
In her spare time, Connie enjoys eating at her favorite
Indian restaurant on Bleecker Street and loitering at
modern art museums. |

Marley
Weiner, Class of 2010, hails from Glenside,
Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Abington Sr. High
School. She is currently enrolled in the Double Degree
program between List College of Jewish Studies and Barnard,
and one day hopes to enter the rabbinate. When she isn't
busy working on two majors at once (tentatively Jewish
Philosophy at List and Anthropology at Barnard), she
is active in Hillel, the Everybody Wins! Power Lunch
Program, and V-Day, and dances for on-campus dance groups
Orchesis and Shalhevet. She loves New York City, and
both of her colleges! |

Anna Ziering, Class of 2011, is from Newton, Massachusetts. She graduated from Boston University Academy. She wishes she could have six majors, but will probably settle on some combination of English, women’s studies, and psychology. She loves to read, write, sing, and see shows! In addition to her job as a BSAR, she works as an Admissions operations assistant, participates in Everyone Allied Against Homophobia, and attends as many lectures and events as she can. |
