Procedure

User sends request to Help Desk.  Help Desk makes ticket, assigns to Akinyi. 

Akinyi confirms new alias with MET, requests from sysadmin, receives confirmation of alias creation, notifies user and closes ticket.

Alias requests from student groups, including the SGA, are coordinated through the College Activities Office.  The SGA advisor sends new requests and updates to the Help Desk. 

Requests are sent to MINS on Mondays or Wednesdays.  They prefer to get them as one email.  

Aliases will be created twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The aliases will become active within 24 hours. For example, an alias request sent on Monday will be created on Tuesday, and the alias will be active by Wednesday.

Akinyi maintains two files:

AliasInfo:  list of alias, users who receive this email, staff member responsible for alias, date of last update

GenericAliasWeb: interfiled list of all known accounts including the owner of account and last update: 

  • aliases

  • generic accounts on BC and Eclipse

  • web accounts on WWW and eclipse

When the Help Desk receives a request for adjustments to an alias, please make a ticket and assign to Akinyi.
