• Current Operating System:  XP Professional. 

  • If you are considering Vista, please check with the Help Desk staff about compatibility issues.

  • You may own software that will not run in Vista.

• Minimum configuration: 

  • 2GB RAM (memory)

  • 120GB Hard Drive

  • DVD-R

  • wireless

  • network port on campus or off-campus via cable and DSL.  (In rare cases, you use a modem to dial-in to your ISP.)

  • three year service contract 

•  Security

  • Since laptops are more likely to be stolen or damaged in transport, you should purchase a security cable and a carrying case.

  • We will install PC Phone Home software on your computer.

  • You should also ask Barnard Security Office to engrave your laptop with a special code.

• Software

  • The Help Desk will install the standard software package.

  • This includes Microsoft Office and Symantec Anti Virus

• Other notes

  • The weight of the laptop increases as you add drives, a large screen and extra batteries.
