Subject:  Important Columbia email change

You are receiving this message generated by Columbia's Academic Information Systems (AcIS) because you recently read Columbia email using an email program configured for the POP (not IMAP) protocol, and it transmitted your password in a potentially unsafe manner.

Effective <INSERT DATE>, unless the proper changes are made to the settings, all email programs using POP to access Columbia will be unable to login to the University email server.  WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND you make these changes as soon as possible to avoid any access down-time.

Please look at the activity log at the bottom of this message to help you figure out where/when this happened.  Any computer you've used is a possible suspect.

Steps

1) Visit: http://www.columbia.edu/acis/email/popssl

2) Find all email programs on any computers that you use

3) Find the right instructions for your email programs and follow the steps

Special Note:  No changes necessary for CubMail or Pine.

 Getting Help

Read through the instructions and visit the web site before contacting the Barnard Help Desk.  If you have a problem, please REPLY TO THIS EMAIL.   This will provide faster service than a direct phone call to the Barnard Help Desk since we will have the details of your situation in writing.
