The College Computer configuration includes a DVD-R drive to enable you to back-up your files onto a DVD disk. Please send an email to help@barnard.edu to obtain a quote.
The College has selected a standard configuration in order to streamline the installation process and facilitate technical support. The small form factor Optiplex computer has a compact CPU which can be set up horizontally as a desktop or vertically as a mini-tower. All Barnard computer orders include a three year service contract. (Note: Floppy drives and Zip drives have been replaced by USB keys. See more about this at: http://www.barnard.edu/edtech/usb_key.html )
Keep in mind that we have computers in the Educational Technology Center (11 Lehman) with CD-RW and DVD drives. These are available for users who need assistance in transferring files among various storage devices: USB keys, laptop, DVD, CD and Artemis.
When the new computer arrives, the Help Desk will:
* install a software package which includes the current Windows operating system,
Microsoft Office and Symantec Anti Virus.
* add your personal configuration to the computer : documents, email,
bookmarks, etc. Read about the installation
process in order to ease the transition to your new computer.
