Distribution of new ID cards
 to the Barnard community

Do not punch a hole in your new ID.    This card has embedded technology that allows it to be read by various campus systems.
Punching a hole in the card will disable the internal coding.
(see FAQs below)

As of November 16th, new IDs are available for pick-up as follows:

Faculty:  Provost's Office
Staff:  Human Resources
Students:  Security window in Barnard Hall

If you have not already done so, please pick up your ID as soon as possible. Within the next few weeks, most card reader systems at Columbia as well as Barnard's swipe card system will no longer work with the old IDs nor will the old IDs be accepted as visual identification at building entrances.

You will need to present photo identification other than your old ID in order to get your new ID -- a driver's license, passport or other formal ID with a photo.  You will have to surrender your old ID when your new ID is issued.  (If you have lost your old ID, you will initial a box on a form to that effect.)  All old IDs will be shredded.

If you received your first or a replacement ID since August 6, 2007, you already have a new ID and you do not need to do anything.  If you are not certain whether or not you have a new ID, go to http://www.columbia.edu/cu/id/docs/New_Card/new_images.html to see a picture of the new ID.

Access privileges and accounts (e.g. photocopy money) will transfer to your new card.

With the institution of the new ID program, you will have only one ID.  Your ID will be from your primary institution.  If you are full-time faculty or staff at Barnard and have a part-time status at Columbia (student, research associate, whatever), you will get a Barnard card. Similarly, if you have a full-time status at Columbia and a part-time affiliation with Barnard, you will get a Columbia ID.

In a relatively small number of cases, you may have to go to the Columbia ID Center to get your ID.  The most common reason is that Columbia did not have a photograph that they could match to your record.  If Barnard does not have your ID, go to Columbia's ID Center which is currently operating in Lerner Hall.  Columbia requires presentation of a government-issued photo ID, so bring one with you.
