Password problems


If you have forgotten your password for your:

come to the Lehman Computer Center to have your password re-set.  You must bring your Barnard ID. Columbia Instructor ID is accepted for Adjunct Professors.  
For your security, we can not accept requests for email password changes by telephone or email.


If you have forgotten your password for Colleague, Benefactor or Artemis,  see Common Requests for information needed for a password reset. Send an email to help@barnard.edu with the details of your request.


To change your password in Ebear

 

1. Click on the 'Email' tab at the top of the screen.
2. Click 'Email Utilies', then choose 'Change Email Password' on the lefthand side.
3. Enter your new password into both fields, then click the Submit button.

It can take up to an hour for your new password to be active.


To change your password in Webmail  

 

1. Click on the 'Options' link at the top of the screen.

2. Click 'Change Password'.

3. Enter your old password in the first field.

4. Enter a new password into the second and third fields, then click the Submit button.

 

It can take up to an hour for your new password to be active.


To change the password using Telnet

 

Login to your account using secure telnet.  To start a session on the Faculty and staff email server, type this as the URL in your browser  ssh://bc.barnard.edu    

 

At the $ prompt, type passwd and press enter.
It will look like this:

$ passwd
passwd: Changing password for (your username)
Enter login password: 

Type your current password, and press enter. You will be prompted to enter a new password, type this in and press enter. This new password needs to be different from your old password in at least three positions/characters. You will be prompted to confirm your new password which is effective after your confirmation.
