Barnard College has an active in-house recycling program. If a department has extra (or unused) computers, they should be returned to the Help Desk for evaluation.  If the computer is still functional, it is upgraded and placed in another office.   If the computer does not meet our minimum standards, all useful parts (CD-drives, hard drives, memory) are removed before we discard the cases. 

We can not donate hard drives to schools or charities because of concern about sensitive data and also the terms of our software contracts.

The stripped cases are turned over to Facilities for proper disposal.
