Secure SMTP
 


This is the "out going server" configuration for Thunderbird.

 

Thunderbird

1)      Go to Tools > Account Settings and click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the menu on the left hand side.

  

2)      If listed, select smtp.barnard.edu and then edit.

a)                        If it is not listed, click on add instead.

 

  

3)      Where it says Description type in “Barnard Email Server”. Server Name should be set to “smtp.barnard.edu”. Port should be “25”. Under Security and Administration make sure “Use Name and password” is checked. Where it says User Name place in your Barnard username (ie. Your email address minus @barnard.edu). If you are setting up this computer from an off-campus location, make sure that under Use Secure Connection, “TLS” is selected. If you are on campus, Use Secure Connection, “TLS, if available”. Click on OK and OK one more time.

  

 

  

4)      When you next send a message, it should prompt you for your password. Type it in and click on OK.
