Information for Users

Important news! MINS has set up a new server (Artemis)  to replace the old server (Athena) which is known to most of you as the G or H drive. Over the next 8 months, all  users will be moved to the new server. Because there is more space on Artemis, users can store all of their files on it instead of the local hard drive. Files on the server are more secure and are automatically backed up every day. Also, everyone who needs access to the department's shared drive will have an individual logon.

On the scheduled Migration Day for your department, all Novell accounts (and files) for users in  your department will be moved from the  Athena to Artemis. Files currently on the old server will be locked (and therefore inaccessible) at 4 pm on the day before Migration Day so they can be copied overnight to the new server . Therefore, if you plan to work with any files currently stored on the G or H drive during this migration period, you should make a copy and save it to your local C: drive or a USB key (or floppy disk).  Be sure to copy these back to the correct location on Artemis.  Call the Help desk if you need assistance.

The new Novell accounts will have different password rules, so be prepared:

AT staff will visit each individual user on the scheduled Migration Day to uninstall the old Novell software and install the new version.  The department coordinator will handle these appointments.

Each user must be present to enter a new password and confirm that the connection to the new server is working correctly.

AT expects that the whole process will take about 18 minutes for each user.

Users will not be able to access files on the new server until the new software is installed and a new password is set up. Users must be present to create their passwords for the new server. AT will make every effort to return within the same week if you cannot be available on Migration Day but, in the meantime, you will have no Novell access.

On Migration Day, while you are waiting for the new software installation, you can still log into your computer and use it to create documents, read email and browse the Internet.  These functions do not require a Novell account.
