The College has leased Plimpton Hall and Cathedral Gardens to an outside agency, Educational Housing Services, which subleases to various groups.
See: http://www.studenthousing.org/plimpton.htm and http://www.studenthousing.org/cathedral.htm.
Estimated move in June 1 - Move out August 15. Contract includes a statement that the buildings have Internet access.
General Information for the Residence Director
The Residence Director is welcome to set up private local printers in the Summer Office on the first floor of Plimpton. AT can not provide support for those printers.
Cable TV is not included at Cathedral Gardens.
Communication for Plimpton network problems is between the Residence Director and the Director of AT, preferably by email. We will attempt to answer emails promptly during normal business hours, M-F 9-5.
Residents should report problems to the Residence Director only. They should not call or send emails to the Help Desk or Academic Technologies staff.
Problem reporting procedures:
Telephone: call Residential Life

Odd problems - We have seen some odd problems that don't fit the normal patterns. Please use the format of the troubleshooting guide linked at the right. We will adjust this format as needed. My goal is to gather enough information to allow the technicians to advise us on the best course of action. |
Send email incorporating this format of the troubleshooting guide. |
General information for Barnard staff
AT has developed a Service Level Agreement for Visitors in Residence.
Plimpton guidelines
Because the Plimpton building is part of the University network, those visitors will have access to online Library resources that are controlled by IP range.
Administrative Services will arrange to remove the computers and printers from the Plimpton Lab around May 20. They will be stored in the Lehman Vault until they are returned to Plimpton in early August.
Jacks are repaired by CBS. They report that many "broken" jacks are working when they arrive.
If the jack is broken or there is no connectivity, the user is instructed to
adjust the computer for half duplex
test the problem computer at a known working jack
test a second computer at the jack
The Residence Director reports broken jacks to AT. AT forwards the report to MINS who notifies CBS.
Visitors are not permitted to install wireless access points or routers in Plimpton Hall. If we discover an illegal unit, we will disable that jack for the summer and will capture the Mac address of the router.
AT will capture computers that are compromised. The user will reformat the computer. The Residence Director will notify AT when this is completed. AT will remove that computer from the capture list. If the computer is compromised a second time, it will be not be released from the capture list.
AT will permanently capture computers found to be in violation of copyright guidelines.
