Guided Research and Senior Seminars

Guided Research

We strongly encourage students to get involved in research whether during the summer or for credit during the academic year (or both). To view your options for research for degree or major credit and to get information about how to go about arranging for a research project click HERE.

BIOL BC 3590x,y Senior Seminars in Biology
Required of all majors who do not select Guided Research (BIOL BC 3591 or BC 3597) to fulfill the senior requirement, these seminars allow students to explore the primary literature in the Biological Sciences in greater depth than can be achieved in a lecture course. Students will write one extensive literature review of a topic related to the central theme of the seminar section. The following is a list of seminars taught by different members of the department. The actual seminar(s) offered each semester will vary; consult the course catalog.

1. Plant Development —K. Shepard
2. Evolutionary Ecology —P. Hertz
3. Development and Evolution —J. Mansfield
4. Ecology and Changing Environment —H. Callahan
5. Microbiology —TBA
6. Neurobiology —E. Bauer
7. Stem cells and Cancer —M. Wallenfang
8. Molecular Evolution and Genomics—B. Morton
9. Sensory Ecology —J. Glendinning
