ABSOLUTELY FIRM DEADLINE FOR WITHDRAWING FROM COURSES AND/OR UTILIZING THE PASS/D/FAIL OPTION is Thursday, November 19. The Registrar's Office closes at 4:30pm. Please remember that full-time (12 points) enrollment is required. Exceptions are permitted by Class Deans only for extraordinary, compelling reasons.

ADVANCE PROGRAM FILING FOR 2010 SPRING SEMESTER: The deadline for filing is Monday, November 23. Please plan to discuss your course selections with your adviser in a timely way.

STUDENTS INTERESTED IN THE 3-2 COMBINED PLAN WITH ENGINEERING are invited to an information session and pizza dinner on Monday, November 9, at 6 pm, on the 14th floor of the Broadway Residence Hall. If you are interested in the Plan but unable to attend the information session, please send a message to that effect to Dean Blank (kblank@barnard.edu).

IMPORTANT MEETING FOR PRE-HEALTH PROFESSIONS STUDENTS: If you are a junior or senior who is planning to apply to a health professions school-- medical (both M.D. and D.O.), dental, veterinary, optometry, physical/occupational therapy, nursing, or physician's assistant-- in the summer of 2010 (for admission in 2011), you are required to attend the Pre-health Procedural Meeting on Wednesday, November 18, from 6 to 8pm, in Held Auditorium (304 Barnard). Information crucial to the application process will be discussed by Dean Adjua Starks, and important forms will be distributed. If you are planning on applying to a health professions school in the summer of 2010 and cannot attend the meeting due to a class conflict, please email your name and year to Pre-Professional Assistant, Paula Hercules, at phercules@barnard.edu.

TUTORING AVAILABLE: Forms to request a peer tutor in specific biology, chemistry, math, economics and language courses are available online. To access these forms, visit www.barnard.edu/dos/support.html and click on Tutee Packet. Tutoring will be provided in small groups (2-3 students) once a week for two hours. If you need a tutor for CHEM BC2001 (General Chemistry I), CHEM BC3231 (Organic Chemistry II), or PHYS BC2001 (Physics I: Mechanics), you should go to the tutoring workshop rooms that have been established for these courses. Further information is available in the Dean of Studies Office.

STUDENTS THINKING ABOUT STUDYING ABROAD IN 2010-2011 (Fall 2010, Spring 2011, or academic year): Please come to the last fall information session to be conducted by Dean Young on Tuesday, November 17, 12:00- 1:00, in 328 Milbank.

STUDENTS WHO WILL BE ON STUDY LEAVE IN THE SPRING: On the “Before Leaving Barnard” page on the Study Abroad website www.barnard.edu/studyabroad is the list of tasks you need to complete for study abroad. The Notice of Study Leave and Waiver forms can be downloaded and left for Dean Young’s signature by Monday, November 23 and left in 110 Milbank. On the Notice of Study Leave form, please secure all other approvals (including Financial Aid clearance) before Dean Young’s signature. If you have not heard from your chosen program or institution by the 23rd, please notify Dean Young.

STUDY ABROAD COURSE SELECTION: If you’re studying abroad in Spring 2010, you need to attend one of the eBear training sessions for study abroad course selection. Sessions will be Wednesday November 18, 12-1pm, 328 Milbank; Tuesday December 1, 5:30-6:30pm, 202 Milbank; Thursday December 3, 12-1pm, 207 Milbank.

PRE-DEPARTURE ORIENTATION MEETING: All students studying abroad during the Spring 2010 semester must attend the Pre-Departure Meeting on Tuesday, December 8, 5-6:30pm, in Held Auditorium (304 Barnard.)

DAVID L. BOREN NSEP SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION: The on-campus deadline for completed applications for study abroad in Summer 2010, Fall 2010, and Spring 2011 is Monday, December 7, at 4pm. This scholarship is for U.S. citizens to study world regions "critical to U.S. interests." Language acquisition is a primary goal of the program. All fields of study are eligible. Students studying non-romance languages, even those not taught at Barnard-Columbia, are strongly encouraged to apply. The application can be found online at www.borenawards.org. There will be an information session on the Boren Scholarship on Tuesday, November 24, from 12:00-1:00pm in 227 Milbank.

OXFORD, ENGLAND: Students interested in studying at one of four colleges at Oxford University for academic year 2010-2011 will be able to obtain applications in 110 Milbank on Monday, November 9. The on-campus deadline is Monday, December 7, 2009, at 4pm in 110 Milbank. For more information about this and other options for study at Oxford, or in the UK in general, see Dean Young.

PRIMARY CARE HEALTH SERVICE'S NEW HOURS: The PCHS is open for Urgent Walk-In Care Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 11:30am and Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Appointments are available Monday through Wednesday from 1:00pm to 4:30pm, Thursday from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, and Tuesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm (for GYN appointments only). The PCHS is closed Thursdays from 12:00pm to 1:30pm for a staff meeting. Please call 212-854-2091 with questions.

TRAVEL MEDICINE: Are you planning to travel abroad spring semester? Do you plan on visiting friends or relatives outside the United States during winter break? If you are traveling outside of the US (especially if you are going to Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Central or South America, Europe, Mexico, the Middle East and/or the Pacific), then you may need required or recommended vaccines and/or malaria prophylaxis. Travel health counseling can prepare you for a safe and enjoyable trip! Please call the Primary Care Health Service (212-854-2091) to set up an appointment for a pre-travel visit.

LISTENING HOURS OPEN: The Furman Counseling Center is offering evening residence hall walk-in sessions. No appointment necessary. Are you new to Barnard or New York City and having problems adjusting? Do you need a place on campus to talk about race, gender, sexuality or class? Have you been feeling down or nervous but cannot figure out why? Drop by one of our Listening Hours, and we’ll help you sort it out. Listening Hours are open to all Barnard students. They are held on Tuesdays in Plimpton Hall, 7-9:30pm, and Thursdays in Elliott Hall, 7-9:30pm.
