While considering studying abroad, take the following steps:
- IMPORTANT NEW STUDY ABROAD POLICY
All students who are intending to study abroad for the full academic year 2009-2010 or fall 2009 semester must submit an Intent to Study Abroad Form to Dean Gretchen Young, Dean for Study Abroad, by Monday February 16, 2009 at 5pm. If you do not submit this form by the deadline you will jeopardize your eligibility to study abroad for the fall 2009 semester. If you submit your intent to study abroad but do not end up studying abroad, you will not be penalized for submitting this form. Forms are currently available in the Dean of Studies Office 105 Milbank.
- Acquaint yourself with the basic eligibility guidelines for study abroad, which are described elsewhere on this website and in the Barnard catalogue online.
- Sign up for the prospective study abroad listserv: go to https://muse.barnard.edu/sympa; click on the list of Lists; click on the saprospactive list for your Barnard year (i.e. saprospective2009@barnard.edu); click subscribe; enter your email address and password.
- Attend one of the Study Abroad Information Sessions on: Monday, January 26 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm, Milbank 405 or Thursday, February 12 from 5:00 - 6:00 pm, Barnard 304 - Barnard Hall
- Meet with your academic adviser to discuss the relationship between study abroad and your major studies.
- Review literature on various programs in the Dean of Studies office study abroad library and on our approved programs website; look over student evaluations of programs; then set up an individual appointment to speak with Dean Young by calling 212-854-2024.
- If you are interested in studying at one of the Oxford or Cambridge colleges, keep in mind that deadlines are as early as mid-December; consult Dean Young during the fall semester for more information.
