Barnard: The Liberal Arts College for Women in New York City

Meeting the Challenge

Barnard College is fully committed to environmental sustainability and to doing all we can to conserve energy, decrease consumption, and reduce our carbon footprint. To this end, we are taking steps towards purchasing recycled materials for daily operations and construction, and are actively promoting awareness campaigns aimed at reducing waste and encouraging sustainable practices.

In fact, we are looking beyond our campus and have signed on to meet Mayor Michael Bloomberg's PlaNY2030 Challenge for a greater, greener New York. We are fulfilling our role as a leading academic institution in the City with the support of the college's executive leadership. Thanks to the efforts of faculty, staff, and student organizations such as the Eco Reps, Barnard has pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent in 10 years to help slow climate change. The time to act is now.
