A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE BARNARD DEAN OF ADMISSIONS:
The Arthur O. Eve HEOP Scholars Program, funded by both the New York State Education Department and Barnard College, presents a unique educational opportunity for students who would benefit from additional financial and academic support services during their time at Barnard College. A select group of students will be admitted into this program. They will participate in a required six-week summer program prior to enrolling, which will further prepare them for the experience of college.
In selecting individuals for The Arthur O. Eve HEOP Scholars Program, we seek motivated, intellectually curious women who demonstrate potential for great success at the college level and beyond.

ACADEMIC GUIDELINES
- Your SAT Critical Reasoning score must be 620 or below, and/or your ACT English subscore 24 or below.
- Your high school grade point average must be 85 or above.
- You must be a high school graduate and be younger than 21 years of age as of September 2008.
FINANCIAL GUIDELINES
You must:
- present a low-income profile, determined by NY State Education Department guidelines.
- be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- be a NY state resident.
- All Barnard Aid is based on financial need. Barnard College is committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated need through a variety of sources including Federal (Pell), TAP, Barnard grants, HEOP grant, student loans, and the work-study program.
THE ACADEMIC SUMMER PROGRAM
Benefits include:
- Participating in a six-week academic summer program required prior to your first year, usually held from the end of June to the middle of August.
- Taking classes in literature and writing, science, mathematics, social science and participating in communication workshops.
- Having your room, board, and transportation fully covered.
- Participating in the Big Sister/Little Sister Program (a support network of Barnard upper-class women and alumnae).
ACADEMIC YEAR
- Benefit from academic and personal advising.
- Receive free academic assistance as needed (tutoring).
- Partake in study skills workshops.
- Borrow laptop computers.
- Get advice and support through the Barnard Big Sister/Little Sister Program
- Obtain subsidized preparatory classes for graduate school entrance exams, and exam fee waivers.
