SENIOR ADMISSIONS OFFICER

The Admissions office seeks a Senior Admissions Officer reporting to the Dean of Admissions.  The individual will coordinate Barnard’s Summer in New York programs, including marketing, developing course content, faculty hiring, evaluation, and providing administrative direction for Barnard’s Pre-College Program.  Summer in New York is a series of pre-college programs for bright, highly motivated young women and men who have completed the tenth or eleventh grade and who are intellectually prepared for college-level work.  The four-week program and two one-week programs typically enroll approximately l50 to 165 students from all over the United States and from many different foreign countries.  The individual will work collaboratively with the Dean of Students in the Pre-College Program.

General admissions responsibilities will include promoting the College to prospective students and their families and interpreting the admissions policies and procedures, conducting interviews and information sessions, planning and coordinating high school outreach programs, and participating in application review and selection.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree from a liberal arts institution and previous experience in selective college or university admissions, preferably 3 or more years is required.  Excellent oral and written communication, reading and public speaking, time management, and organizational skills as well as computer literacy are also required. An understanding of the values of a liberal arts education for women and the ability to articulate these values effectively is essential. Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends at certain times of the year. Some travel involved.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST

The Academic Technologies department has an immediate need for a Technical Specialist.  Reporting to the Associate Director for Technical Support Services, the Technical Specialist provides technical hardware and software support for servers, labs and computers maintained by the department.  Typical duties include:  

  • Test, install, and configure new computers for faculty, staff and labs.  Customize for individual computing environments. 

  • Train Barnard community members on efficient use of computers, software applications, email and storage devices.

  • Produce PC/Macintosh ghosts with documentation for student labs, special labs, library public workstations; evaluate cloning and software security options for PC and Macintosh lab computers.

Additionally, the Technical Specialist works to identify and resolve outstanding or developing technical needs on campus related to academic computing and researches, evaluates and reports on emerging trends in technology applications relevant to higher education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of two years experience in computer operations and user support.

  • MCSE or Novell certification, or substantial progress toward its completion, preferred.

  • Macintosh experience, including basic troubleshooting, highly desirable.

  • Experience in LAN, TCP/IP network operation and desktop software support; knowledge of UNIX, Windows XP/Vista, and TCP/IP based networking; experience in creating and deploying ghosts

MANAGER OF EVENT PROMOTION AND DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

  • Specialized information/Web technology Master’s degree; seven to 10 years hands-on experience in building, managing, and growing a website for medium/large size organization, preferably in the non-profit or higher education sectors.
  • Knowledge of current W3C Web Standards, including HTML and CSS; familiarity with other protocols, including PHP, XHTLM/XML, JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Dreamweaver, Photoshop; Acrobat, In Design and Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of key concepts, best practices, and procedures in electronic communications including social media like Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Ability to implement and analyze metrics such as usability testing; experience with Google Analytics a plus.

EDITORIAL DIRECTOR

Reporting to the Vice President for Communications, and working closely with the Creative Director (art), the Editorial Director (copy) has responsibility for developing the editorial content for both the public pages of the College's website and the print publications produced by the College’s Communications group including the quarterly (76-page) alumnae magazine and a few academic-department and program-specific newsletters.  Providing creative vision and direction with a focus on raising the College’s public profile and building alumnae involvement, the Editorial Director is ultimately responsible for helping to establish Barnard’s strategic messages and positioning.

We require a bachelor’s degree (master's preferred) in a related field required combined with 10 years of editorial experience, preferably in magazine, book, or custom publishing; marketing experience is desirable.  Also required is experience conceptualizing, developing, editing and writing high-quality articles/content on a variety of topics as well as strong creative initiative, and the ability to develop new ideas and projects.
