Security and Facilities
Employees
Security and Facility employees are paid
weekly. Checks are issued on Wednesday and may be picked up at the Bursars window
between the hours of 10 and 4.
Local 2110 & Confidential
Employees
Local 2110 and Confidential employees
are paid every other week. Time sheets are to be signed by the supervisor, then brought to
the Human Resources Department, every other Thursday. Employees are responsible for
prompt submssion of time sheets.
Checks are issued the following Thursday
and may be picked up at the Bursars window between the hours of 10 and 4.
Administrative Employees
Administrative employees are paid
monthly, on the next to last working day of the month. Checks may be picked up at the
Bursars window between the hours of 10 and 4.
At the beginning of each month
Administrators receive a Leave Record from the Human Resources Department. The Leave
Record details the sick leave, vacation time, and floating holidays taken during the
fiscal year and calculates the number of leave days remaining.
Use the bottom portion of the Leave
Record to report leave taken during the previous month. Return this completed, signed form
to the Human Resources Department.
Faculty
Full and part-time faculty are
paid monthly, on the next to last working day of the month.
Faculty should speak with their department assistant about
payroll check distribution.
Direct Deposit
Pay checks may be deposited directly to
a bank account. Contact the Payroll Department at X47630 for information on this service.
"WHERE DO I
GET AN I.D. CARD?"
Staff
All new
employees are issued a temporary I.D. card by the Human
Resources Office (Room 6, Milbank Hall). Take this card to the
Safety & Security Office (lobby Barnard Hall) to
receive an authorization form
that is then brought to the I.D. Center in 204 Kent Hall,
Columbia.
I.D. cards should be carried at all
times and must be presented when using College facilities.
Faculty
Barnard Faculty should bring their
appointment letter to the Barnard Security Office in the lobby
of Barnard Hall. The Security Office will issue an authorization
form that is then brought to the I.D. Center in 204 Kent Hall,
Columbia.
I.D. cards should be carried at all
times and must be presented when using College facilities.
THE
COLLEGE YEAR
The Barnard College academic year begins
in late August and ends with commencement in mid-May. Most administrative offices,
however, are open year-round. Jobs may be on a 9, 10, 11, or 12 month schedule. The
fiscal year is July 1 through June 30.
"HOW
DO I GET PROBLEMS RESOLVED AND QUESTIONS ANSWERED?"
Questions regarding work assignments,
policies and procedures, hours, lunch, and breaks should be directed to an employees
immediate supervisor. The supervisor is also available to discuss other concerns which may
emerge in the work place.
Questions or problems which are not
resolvable at the department level may be directed to Human Resources.
ATM
There is an Automatic Teller Machine in
the lobby of Barnard Hall and in the lobby of the Interchurch Center on Claremont Avenue.

CLAIM FORMS
GHI and Oxford medical forms may be
obtained from the Human Resources Office, Room 6, Milbank Hall,

COLLEGE
ACTIVITIES
Staff may use the Piano Practice Rooms
for free. The Grace Gold Darkroom is also available to staff for $50/semester.
Fees for membership in the Clay Collective vary depending on courses taken in
conjunction with membership. Call X42096 for information.
LIBRARIES
Wollman Library, Lehman Hall
Staff members with currently validated
I.D. cards may use the Barnard Library. Call X43846 for hours.
Columbia University Libraries
Staff members have access to all
Columbia University Libraries. General information about the libraries may be secured from
the Library Information Office, 234 Butler, X42271.
PHYSICAL
FITNESS
Barnard College
The gymnasium, studios, track,
exercycles, pool, and weight room in Barnard Hall may be used by staff members when not in
use for classes or organized activities. Call X42085 for schedules and reservations.
Columbia University
Barnard staff members with a valid
C.U.I.D. card may use the Columbia gym, weight room, track, pools, saunas, and
squash-handball courts. Call x42546 for information or visit the website

and click on facilities and then Marcellus Dodge Fitness Center.
Tennis Center
Staff members may also use the Tennis
Center located at 575 W. 218th Street. Courts may be rented by the hour or by
the season. Call 942-7100 for additional information.
COLLEGE STORE
The College
store, located in the old Quad Cafe across Sulzberger Hall,
sells Barnard sweatshirts, T-shirts, pencils, bags, mugs, etc.

Barnard staff members may purchase books
and supplies at the Columbia University Bookstore (Barnes & Noble) and are eligible
for limited discounts on purchases from the bookstore with a valid I.D. card.
LOST AND
FOUND
The Safety & Security Office serves
as the Colleges Lost and Found Service. Losses should be reported to the Safety and
Security Office.
EMERGENCIES
In the event of an emergency
including medical ones,
employees should contact Safety & Security (X43362). Security, in turn, will
contact the appropriate authorities. To summon Security
urgently touch 88 on any campus phone or use the Emergency Call
boxes placed around campus.
PARKING
Barnard has a parking facility located
on Claremont and 119th Street. Parking in the Garage is limited and assigned on
an annual basis based on time and distance traveled to the College and availability of
spaces. There is a waiting list, and space cannot be guaranteed each year. The rate is $65

Barnard has a special monthly

A United States Post Office is located

arrangements for the benefit of its employees with major rental car companies. Contact the

ROOM RESERVATIONS FOR COLLEGE PURPOSES
There are
several departments on the Barnard campus that reserve space for
College business.
Special Events
Services reserves special event space on campus twelve months a
year. Space may be reserved by contacting space
reservations at x47005.
To request public spaces
in the Quad, contact Residential Life and Housing x45561. If
you are interested in having a meeting or an activity or a table
in McIntosh, please contact College Activities x42096.
The
Registrar's Office reserves classrooms on weekdays for the first
2 weeks of every semester so faculty members can reserve space
for classes. Special Events Services reserves classrooms
during the weekend AND after the first 2 weeks of each academic
semester once space is reserved for classes.
TICKET BOOTH
The College Activities Office operates a
ticket booth on the upper level of McIntosh. Staff members may obtain tickets for specific
events at discount prices. "Twofers" are also available. Call X42096 for
additional information and hours.

Vending machines (soda, snack,) are
located in several Barnard buildings throughout the campus.

If you
normally work during daytime hours and expect to be working in
your office past 7:00 p.m., it is recommended that you call the
Safety and Security Office at X43362 to inform them of your
continued presence on campus.
This will enable Safety and Security to inform the guard
who is on post near you to look in on you as time permits.
