How
Privilege Systems Undermine U.S. Educational Ideals,

New York,
N.Y., February 19, 2003 Peggy McIntosh, associate director
of the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women, will
speak about equal access and lack of gender equity in education
in a talk, titled "How Privilege Systems Undermine U.S.
Educational Ideals." The forum will take place on March
12, 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the James Room (4th floor Barnard
Hall, 117th St. & Broadway) and is sponsored by Barnards
Rosemary Furman Counseling Center. This event is free and
open to the public.
McIntosh is the founder and co-director of the United States
S.E.E.D. Project on Inclusive Curriculum (Seeking Educational
Equity and Diversity), which helps teachers create their own
year-long seminars on making school more fair. McIntosh is
also the co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Womens Institute
and the author of the seminal article "White Privilege
and Male Privilege: A Personal Account of Coming to See Correspondences
Through Work in Womens Studies."
McIntosh has taught at Harvard University, Trinity College
in Washington, D.C., and the University of Durham in England.

Studies, Disability Services, Health Services, Multicultural
Affairs, Pan-African Studies, BC/CU Rape Crisis/Anti-Violence
