BARNARD
COLLEGE PRESENTS "BREAST CANCER: RISK ASSESSMENT AND
RISK MANAGEMENT," A LECTURE WITH ACCLAIMED BREAST SURGEON
FREYA R. SCHNABEL
New
York, NY, March 26, 2003Freya R. Schnabel, Chief of
Breast Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian and Medical Director
of Columbia's Women at Risk, will give a lecture on "Breast
Cancer: Risk Assessment and Risk Management" as part
of the Hughes Science Pipeline Project at Barnard on April
2 at 5:00 PM in Lower Level McIntosh. This event is co-sponsored
by the Barnard Center for Research on Women and is free and
open to the public.
Schnabel
graduated from Barnard College in 1978 and since then has
gained extensive experience both as a breast surgeon and as
a professor of surgery. Schnabel conducts research on the
role of risk factors in the onset of breast cancer as well
as new techniques in breast cancer treatment. Her specialties
include surgical treatment of benign and malignant breast
disease and diagnostic biopsy. Schnabel was named one of the
2002 "Best Doctors in New York" by New York Magazine
and in 1992 received a Women's Medical Association Citation.
She also participated in Glamour Magazine's "Top
Ten College Women Weekend" as a professional female role
model.
