Women in Media Panel Features Prominent Barnard Alumnae in Print, Television, and Radio, April 30

New York, N.Y. – Barnard College will host five of its alumnae in the media - Newsweek’s Alexis Gelber, CNN’s Maria Hinojosa, TimeOut New York’s Cyndi Stivers, People magazine’s Martha Nelson, and CosmoGirl’s Atoosa Rubinstein - on Wednesday, April 30 for a panel discussion on the roles women play in today’s media.

The panel will address public perceptions of gender roles and issues, the role of institutions in preventing or reinforcing stereotypes, the impact of media messages on society, and sexual discrimination in the workplace. The panel will be moderated by Alexis Gelber '74, Director of Special Projects, Newsweek, and includes Maria Hinojosa '84, Correspondent, CNN and Host of NPR’s LatinoUSA; Cyndi Stivers '78, President and Editorial Director, TimeOut New York; Martha Nelson '76, Managing Editor, People magazine; and Atoosa Rubenstein '93, Editor-in-Chief, CosmoGIRL! Magazine.

Women in Media: Shaping Gender Representations and Perceptions is sponsored by Barnard Alumnae Affairs and the Barnard Center for Research on Women.
