Barnard Recruitment Campaign Wins Graphic Design Award
Hans Riis, Art and Publications Director at Barnard, has won the Annual Association of Graphic Communications Achievement Award for the second year in a row. The award-winning piece, the "Spring in New York" recruitment poster and bookmark (pictured), is a project Riis worked on for the Office of Admissions. Collaborating on the project with Riis were freelance graphic designers Maria Illardi and Kari Litzmann.
Suzanne Trimel, Vice President of Public Affairs said: "From invitations to flyers to posters to major college publications, Hans Riis is the creative talent behind Barnard's graphic presentation. His imagination and devotion to his work has been extraordinary. The College is fortunate to have someone of Hans' talent."
The AGC is a New York metro area printing industry trade association, and sponsors the Annual AGC Graphic Arts Exhibition. Barnard's recruitment poster was chosen from thousands of entries and judged based on print production quality, effective use of paper stock, typography, color, binding, function and creativity.
The AGC hailed the work: "The serenity of the Barnard campus presented alongside the city's skyscrapers, coupled with 'take-one' padded bookmarks, make this piece both aesthetically pleasing and logistically successful."
Other winners included notable foundations and institutions such as Memorial Sloan Kettering (convocation and invitation package); the Social Science Research Council (2004 President's Report); the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum (special events folder), New York Building Congress (2004 Annual Report) and NYU Child Study Center (achievement dinner program).
