New York, NY - Barnard College will host its first annual Spring Party & Auction to benefit student scholarship on May 3, 6:30 p.m., at Industria Superstudio in the Lower Manhattan Meatpacking District. The College will honor Sheila Nevins, Class of 1960, the creative force behind hundreds of award-winning documentaries and now president of HBO Documentary and Family Division. She will receive the Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger Award, named for the late alumna, philanthropist and civic leader. Anna Quindlen, Class of 1974, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author and Chair of Barnard's Board of Trustees, will be the master of ceremonies.

The auction will include unique items like naming a character in Quindlen's next book; a one-week vacation in Saint Tropez; and a portrait by celebrity photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders. The silent auction numbers close to 100 items, ranging from VIP tickets to HBO season premieres, tickets to sporting events, and travel packages. The raffle grand prize is a three-night stay at Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Arizona; a first prize of a $1,000 gift certificate to Saks Fifth Avenue; and a second prize of a $500 gift certificate to Henri Bendel.

All proceeds from event tickets, auction items, and raffle ticket sales will benefit Barnard's student scholarship program.

At HBO, Nevins has developed hundreds of documentaries that inspire and educate, as well as entertain. Before joining HBO, Nevins produced 13 Academy Award-winning documentary features and shorts.   She has earned 50 Emmy awards and 20 George Foster Peabody awards. In 2000, Nevins was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame.

The 2005 Spring Party and Auction will be catered by Serena Bass, hailed by House and Garden magazine as "the city's most fashionable catering company."
