Barnard Summer Dance Study Is Underway

New York, NY, June 6, 2002—The Barnard College Summer Dance Study program began on May 28 and extends through July 5. The five courses in the program are administered by the Columbia University Continuing Education Summer Session and are designed for students interested in the academic and technical aspects of dance. This summer’s courses are Intermediate Ballet, History of Dance I: Multicultural Perspectives, Dance as Performance in New York City, African I, and Intermediate Modern.

Barnard’s Dance Department has been an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance since 1982 and offers a program based on the integration of dance as an art form within a liberal arts curriculum. The faculty is composed of artists and scholars, which encourages a dual approach to the art of dance. It is the department’s belief that future artists and dance scholars should understand the language, composition, history, and criticism of the art form.
