THE LATINA HERITAGE MONTH OPENING RECEPTION,

YORK, N.Y., September 28, 2001 -- Deborah Rosado
Shaw, a 1984 Barnard graduate who is founder
and chief executive officer of Umbrellas Plus
and author of Dream Big! A Roadmap for Facing
Life's Challenges and Creating the Life You
Deserve, will be the keynote speaker at
this year's Latina Heritage Month Dinner, Monday,
October 1, at 7 p.m., in the Altschul Atrium,
Barnard College.
Rosado
Shaw will be discussing her experiences as a
Latina student while at Barnard and as a successful
business woman and entrepreneur.
Shaw is the founder and CEO of Umbrellas Plus,
LLC, a multi-million dollar supplier of private-label
and promotional rain products, beach accessories,
and casual furniture. Customers include Costco,
LillianVernon, Toys-R-Us and Wal-Mart.
Shaw
has also been honored with the Avon Women of
Enterprise Award, the Free Enterprise Legend
Award, Hispanic Magazine's Entrepreneur of the
Year Award, the Dialogue on Diversity Entrepreneurial
Excellence Award and the National Foundation
for Women Legislators Entrepreneur of the Year
Award. She is also a twice-appointed commissioner
with the New Jersey Commission on the Status
of Women.
Shaw's
book Dream Big! A Roadmap for Facing Life's
Challenges and Creating the Life You Deserve,
will be for sale at the event and she will sign
copies.
