October 11, the
French department will sponsor a Bilingual Franco-American
Poetry Festival. Featured readers include Phillipe
Beck, Pascalle Monnier, Robert Kelly, and Kristin
Prevallet. The Franco-American Poetry Festival
Reading will be held in the Ella Weed Room from
7 p.m.- 9 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Phillipe Beck is an important up-and-coming
French poet. He has written four books of poetry
as well as philosophic essays. He is also a
professor of philosophy at the University of
Nantes, France.
Pascalle
Monnier, the younger French poet, is the author
of three books of poetry. She has appeared in
numerous French anthologies and literary magazines.
Her work has been translated into English by
John Ashberry.
Robert
Kelly is among the country's most innovative
and challenging poets and critics. He has written
47 books of poetry since 1961, as well as critical
studies, The New York Times book reviews,
and a radically new translation of a Hoelderlin
poem. He is a professor of English at Bard College,
and his work can be read on the Internet.
Kristin Prevallet is a younger American poet
and translator of contemporary French poets.
She has written two books of poetry as well
as studies of Henri Michaux and Max Ernst. She
is presently editing a Francophone Anthology.
