BARNARD
COLLEGE ADDS TWO MORE FEET TO THIS YEAR'S "BIG
SUB" GIVING MORE FOOD TO HUNGRY COMMUNITY
MEMBERS
New
York, N.Y., October 24, 2001- Tonight at 7:00
p.m., Barnard College's McIntosh Activities
Council (McAC) will host a new and improved
"Big Sub" where students will construct a submarine
sandwich two feet longer than last year's, spanning
the length of the Barnard campus. Students will
work together in teams to construct different
sections of the sub, which will total 702 feet
in length. The entire Columbia University community
is encouraged to attend.
This
year's additional two feet extends the Sub through
the newly paved walkway in the Quad Lawn, as
opposed to last year's Sub beginning on the
south side of Barnard Hall. Al Sorbera, head
of Aramark food services at Barnard, had envisioned
"a submarine sandwich that stretches from one
end of the campus to the other." The Communications
Representative of McAC, who has also witnessed
the first creation of the "Big Sub" says "It
truly is an incredible sight to see an unbroken
chain of bread running through campus defying
the laws of gravity through the brilliance of
Barnard women working side by side."
Last
year, McAC's biggest worry was not the weather,
but if the University community would be able
to digest this massive sandwich. This concern
soon dissipated as the remnants of the Sub cleared
in less than half an hour after opening. Not
having enough time to take pictures of this
amazing feat instead proved to be the biggest
problem. But rest assured, that will not happen
this time.
