Barnard
College Sponsors "It's My Park! Day" in Morningside
Park
On Sunday,
October 22, 2006, Barnard College collaborated with Friends
of Morningside Park to host the New York City Partnerships
for Parks' biannual "It's My Park! Day" in Morningside
Park. Thirty five students, parents, friends, faculty, and
alumnae joined forces with dozens of neighborhood residents
to plant over 2,000 daffodil and day lily plants and paint
railings alongside Morningside Park.
Part of
the growing relationship between Barnard College and the Friends
of Morningside Park, this event was intended to make more
students aware of the tremendous resources and beautiful space
of Morningside Park, and to allow neighborhood residents to
meet the students that live amongst them.
Will Simpkins,
associate director of Barnard's New York City Civic Engagement
Program, says "as the College continues to grow, exemplified
by our new residence hall Cathedral Gardens, it becomes even
more important to build meaningful and mutually beneficial
relationships between the College and our community. This
event is simply one of many that bring together the various
people that make Morningside Heights such a special and unique
place to live and work."
