NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Barnard Summit: Women, Leadership and the Future, drew more than 900 people to the College's LeFrak Gymnasium in Barnard Hall on Saturday, Oct. 27, for a daylong discussion designed to take stock of gender equity, identify remaining barriers, and suggest ways to make further progress.

The three panel discussions included: Women and the Public World; The Future of Family and Community; and Lessons from Abroad/Conclusion. A full report on the conference that will be published in March Barnard and the Families and Work Institute [www.familiesandwork.org] are producing a full report on the conference that will be published in March. The proceedings will be the subject of a PBS special produced by Connecticut Public Television.

The audience included students at Barnard and elsewhere, members of the public, alumnae, representatives of organizations, and members of the media. A parallel event linked to the summit called the Young Women's Leadership Summit involved 20 young women leaders, each of whom mentored a Barnard student.

The event was preceded by a forum on The Future of Women in Business held Friday, Oct. 26.

The summit was made possible in part by the generous support of J.P Morgan Chase & Co., The New York Times, The Ford Foundation, The Goldman Sachs Foundation, Milestone Capital Management, with the assistance of organizational partners Families and Work Institute, The White House Project, and the Winds of Change Foundation. Hotel accommodations were provided by Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts and Essex House. Summit media partners are iVillage and Seventeen.
