BARNARD CARES: Campus-Wide Smoke-Out 2001
Thursday, November 15, 2001

Calling all members of the Barnard community! Human Resources, Well-Woman and Disability Services invite you to participate in Smoke-Out 2001 on Thursday, November 15. As we have done in the past, we are inviting smokers to throw the pack away today.

You may participate in any of four ways:

  • Solo & Smoke-Free: you will commit not to smoke for the day and prefer to take on that challenge by yourself and not with assistance of a special support buddy
  • As A Supporter: you will be matched with a Smoker and will provide encouragement as s/he tries to throw the pack away today
  • As A Smoker: you will be matched with one or more Supporters and will agree--with their support--not to smoke for the day
  • As A Smoker/Supporter Duo: you know whom you wish to support or receive support from and have already discussed your intentions with that Smoker/Supporter (Note: Two smokers could act as Supporters for each other.)

The deadline for official participation is Tuesday, Nov 13th at 4:00 p.m. You may register on the Office of Disability Services Web site at http://www.barnard.edu/ods/smokeout.html or by signing up in Human Resources (6 Milbank).

On Smoke-Out Day, all participants should come to the official Barnard Cares/Smoke-Out information resources table in Upper McIntosh any time from 8:30-10:00 a.m. to pick up a goody bag to assist in a smoke-free day. Participants can return to the table from 4:30-5:00 p.m. to pick up a certificate for having completed a smoke-free day!

Well-Woman will be sponsoring a special event for student smokers only on Wednesday, November 14th in the Quad Lounge from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The event will feature smoke-free ways to handle stress and there will be food and free giveaways.

Good luck to all!
