Amy Trompetter/David Neumann
THE HAPPY PRINCE

Thursday November 18 at 6:30pm: FREE

Friday & Saturday November 19 & 20 at 8pm:
Tickets $3 CUID $5 general admission

Papier mache puppets of all sizes and a chorus of puppeteers and dancers set the stage for this recreation of Oscar Wilde's beloved fairy tale THE HAPPY PRINCE.

The show is a collaboration between Trompetter, the Barnard theatre faculty member who is also an acclaimed puppeteer and director, and Bessie Award-winning choreographer David Neumann.   The production features colorful papier-mâché puppets of all sizes and a mix of dance styles and puppetry theatre art. "The Happy Prince" offers a re-thinking of Wilde's idealistic fantasy in which a weeping statue, so large only a portion of it can be seen at one time, longs to give his jewels to the suffering poor.

The production will challenge the essence of scale--Trompetter's puppets will range in volume, dimension and magnitude; and Neumann's dance will highlight his acclaimed use of testing the boundaries of movement and the layering of dance disciplines.

Puppet artist and director Trompetter is a distinguished pioneer in her field. After 18 years of performing, designing, and directing for the Bread and Puppet Theater in Vermont, she founded the Blackbird Theater in New York. Trompetter's production of "The Barber of Seville" at St. Ann's Warehouse, revived with Neumann in 2003, was critically acclaimed as "the best sort of rethinking of the basic opera repertory now taking place" by the New York Times . At Barnard, her courses include World Theatre, Rehearsal and Performance, and Scene Design.
