Alumna Brenda Patterson, Mezzo-Soprano, Debuts at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall
In a performance that the New York Times called "luminous," alumna Brenda Patterson '00 made her solo debut at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Vocal Arts Debut Recital on November 16, 2004. The Debut Recital is an annual concert sponsored by the Juilliard School to promote outstanding young vocalists about to embark upon professional careers.
The New York Times review lauded her selection of music and concluded that "the overall impression Ms. Patterson made, in her stunning evening dress, was that this was a voice you wanted to hear and, even more, an artist you wanted to follow."
As part of Barnard's joint degree program with Juilliard, Patterson earned a bachelor's degree in Medieval Studies at Barnard and a master of music degree from Juilliard two years later. She has attended festivals at Tanglewood, Aspen and Ravinia, among others, and has sung with the New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Berkshire Opera and the Sideshow Opera, a company she co-founded and co-directs in Charlottesville, VA. Starting in the fall of 2005, she is engaged to sing with the Hamburgische Staatsoper in Germany.
