Five
hundred fifty-eight Barnard students celebrate as
the degree of Bachelor of Arts is officially conferred
upon them at the Columbia University commencement
exercises on Wednesday, May 17. The ceremony, which
officially marks graduation for a total of 9,200
students, drew 30,000 guests. Barnard students receive
an A.B. degree from the University that is signed
by by Barnard College President Judith Shapiro and
by Columbia University President George Rupp. Commencement
exercises at the University followed a ceremony
at Barnard on Tuesday, May 16, in which the graduates
were presented for their degrees.
