CONGRATULATIONS
TO THE AWARD-WINNING GRADUATES!
Charli
Long, '00, a chemistry major from Williamsport,
Pennsylvania, was awarded the USIA Fulbright grant.
Charli plans to go to Peru for a year to study medicinally
and environmentally important chemical compounds
that have been isolated and characterized from plants
and animals indigenous to Peru and its neighboring
countries.
Melissa
Gonzalez, '00, was awarded a Ford Foundation Pre-Doctoral
Fellowship, which supports minority students at
or near the beginning of study toward a Ph.D. or
Sc.D. Melissa will pursue a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology
at Columbia, which also gave her an award.
Stella
Singer, '99, has been awarded a Mellon Fellowship,
which supports the first year of study toward a
Ph.D. in the humanities. Stella's BA is in English
and she will pursue a Ph.D. in medieval literature
at Penn starting in the fall.
Three
students were awarded National Science Foundation
Graduate Research Fellowships, which support graduate
study in math, science, or engineering:
Jhoanne
Bautista, '99, biochemistry, who is enrolled in
the Ph.D. program in chemistry at MIT.
Sarah
Tully, '00, biochemistry, who will pursue a Ph.D.
in chemistry at CalTech.
Nya
Nguyen, '00 (Feb.), who double majored in biology
and anthropology, will attend a Ph.D. program at
Princeton in the fall in zoology or biology.
