The LEED Green Building Rating System™ from the U.S. Green Building Council provides a baseline against which improvement above the norm can be measured in the following areas:

The green building initiatives listed under "Nexus' Distinct Shade of Green" will allow Barnard to pursue LEED certification for the Nexus.

The term commonly used to describe buildings that achieve definable sustainable design goals
