THE VAGELOS CHALLENGE
Now you have a special opportunity to greatly increase the value of your Nexus gift.
Your Nexus gift of any amount qualifies for a matching gift from the Marianthi Foundation, the family foundation of Barnard trustee Diana T. Vagelos ’55 and her husband, Dr. P. Roy Vagelos.
FOR A GIFT ABOVE $250,000
The Marianthi Foundation will provide a direct 50% match.
Example: Gloria Grad ’64 makes a pledge of $500,000 for the Nexus. This amount qualifies her donation as a “naming gift” for a state-of-the-art multimedia classroom on the second floor. The donor agrees that, at the entrance to this named space, the College may install a plaque permanently identifying it as “The Gloria Grad ’64 Classroom.”
Ms. Grad chooses to make her gift in four annual installments of $125,000. Every time she makes a $125,000 payment, the Marianthi Foundation will donate $62,500, ultimately raising the total value of Ms. Grad’s gift to $750,000.
FOR A GIFT OF $250,000 OR LESS
The Marianthi Foundation will provide a 50% match for the amount this gift raises your average annual donation to Barnard.
Example: Annie Alumna ’85 makes a pledge of $25,000 for the Nexus. This amount qualifies her donation as a “naming gift” for a study carrel in the Nexus Reading Room, made in honor of Ms. Alumna’s mother. The donor asks that the College name her mother on the plaque to be affixed to the study carrel.
Ms. Alumna chooses to make her gift in five annual installments of $5,000. During the previous five years, her annual gift to Barnard averaged $1,000. Thus, her average annual giving now increases by $4,000. Every time she makes a $5,000 payment, the Marianthi Foundation will donate $2,000, ultimately raising the total value of Ms. Alumna’s gift to $35,000.
