PRINTED ON OFFICE OF DISABILITY
SERVICES LETTERHEAD
We are delighted to announce the
formation of Faculty Friends, a faculty/student network designed to provide
support for Barnard students with disabilities and increase awareness of the issue of
disability on campus. We would like to invite faculty members with experience or interest
in any aspect of disability to join with us. In addition, our current students with
disabilities will suggest faculty members who have been particularly sensitive to the
issue of disability and who have helped to develop creative strategies in responding to
disability-related needs in the classroom. The Directory of Faculty Friends will serve as
a resource for current
students with disabilities who may have questions about a particular course, major field
or other area of interest.
The goals of Faculty Friends
are two-fold:
-
To create a network of support between faculty
members and disabled students at Barnard
-
To increase overall awareness of the issue of
disabilityboth visible and invisible on campus and in the classroom by providing a
forum for dialogue and discussion.
Barnard faculty members are invited
to join Faculty Friends at any time by completing the online
Faculty Friends Interest Form.
Students are encouraged to think about and submit the names of
instructors who have been supportive, responsive, and/or creative in
responding to disability-related needs. Students may make as many
nominations as they like--from either this semester's experience or from
any past semester/s as well. If you have any questions, please
contact Susan Quinby (squinby@barnard.edu or 212/854-4634) via email or phone.
We look forward to your input and involvement.
Sincerely,
