First Year English (ENGL BC1201)

All first-year students who are currently enrolled in First-Year Seminar (FYSB) should plan to enroll in a First-Year English course in the spring semester. Course descriptions—including topics, reading lists, and meeting times—will be available by Friday, November 6th.

To enroll in a First-Year English course, students must participate in the online "FY English Lottery," which may be accessed through the "New Student" link under the "Registrar" tab in eBear. Students should select their top four sections (based on topic and meeting time) and rank them according to interest, then submit those rankings any time between Monday, November 9th at 9:00 a.m. and Friday, November 13th at 5:00 p.m. Lottery results will be posted on eBear on Tuesday, November 17th at 12:00 noon.

First-Year English assignments cannot be changed once made, and students should complete their Spring 2010 programs with other courses that do not conflict with their assigned English sections. Students will not be able to enter First-Year English sections directly onto their online programs; the courses will be input by the Registrar’s office starting Wednesday, November 18th, and advisers should not approve an advance program until the assigned First-Year English course appears as part of the entire course schedule.
