- Address book, envelopes, stationery, stamps
- Alarm clock
- Area rug
- All Barnard correspondence
- Bedrest and/or lap desk
- Blanket, comforter, sheets, pillow(s)
- Bookbag or knapsack
- Bowls, cups, mugs, plates, utensils
- Broom and dustpan or a dust-buster (small vacuum)
- Clothes drying rack, iron, small ironing board
- Clothes hangers
- Computer, disks, printer
- Desk supplies: glue, highlighters, notebooks, paper clips, pens, scissors, stapler, tape, ruler, pencils, post-it notes
- First-aid kit, sewing kit, small tool kit
- Cleaning supplies, laundry bag/basket (You Do NOT need to bring quarters)
- Personal care products
- Pictures, posters, room decorations
- Blue painter's tape to hang posters, pictures, et cetera
- Old, but good condition $5 and $10 bills for laundry [machines can't read new design]
- Radio, stereo, MP3 player, CD player, and headphones
- Small, "cube type" refrigerator (these can be rented from Cecil Distributors)
- Small desk-top fan (not a window fan)
- Surge protector with a flush-to-the-wall plug (see photo), must be UL approved
- Umbrella, raincoat
- Lamps
Note: DO NOT BRING HALOGEN LAMPS. They are a fire hazard and are not allowed in the residence halls. Instead, we recommend the Holmes 3-way Torchiere Light or 3 Spotlight Floor Lamp. Both are available at stores near campus.
What NOT to Bring (Prohibited Items)
Pack light! You can always bring or buy more stuff if you need it, but we do not have storage space available for you if you brought more stuff than will fit into your dorm room.
- Air conditioners (both window and portable units)
- Yellow / Blue "sticky stuff" or double-sided tape for hanging posters (you may only use blue painter's tape)
- Bulletin board
- Candles
- Extra furniture
- Halogen lamps
- Hot plate, open coil heater, toaster, or toaster oven
- Microwaves in bedrooms (only may be used in suite kitchens)
- Quarters for laundry - the machines only take bills!
- Your entire wardrobe
- Wall mirror
- Waste basket
- Extenion cords (only surge protectors like the ones referenced above are allowed)
IMPORTANT NOTE: we have received a report that the lighting appliance pictured and described here is prone to melting. We strongly recommend against the use of this product on our campus.
