FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, can be used to store your files on the Barnard or Columbia student servers.
Not only is this another way to back up your files, but it is also convenient. You can manage your files anywhere there is an FTP client -- all computers in the Barnard labs have the Secure File Transfer Client. It goes without saying, then, that you should not put sensitive information on the server, since anyone can access it if they know where to go. Files you put in the "public_html" folder are visible right on http://columbia.edu/~youruni or http://eclipse.barnard.edu/~youruni. You can also create new folders on your server space.
