Secure Wireless Setup for Mac (Leopard) Users
- Turn Airport on.
- Select Open Network Preferences.
- A new window should appear. Click on the lock and enter your
password to edit settings. Click Advanced....
- A window titled Network should appear. Click on the 802.1X tab.
- Click the "+" button in the lower left corner and select "Add User Profile". Name it "WPA: Barnard Quad"
or something else you can remember as the secure wireless networks.
- Leave the username and passwords blank.
- Under "Wireless Network", type in the name of the network that you wish to join (i.e. Barnard Quad, 616, Plimpton)
- Under "Authentication", make sure only TTLSis checked.
- Select TTLS and click Configure.... Make sure TTLS is highlighted before proceeding. A window titled "TTLS"
will pop up. Under "TTLS Inner Authentication", select PAP. Click OK.
- Click OK. Click Apply. Close the window.
- Click the Airport Icon and select the secure wireless network.
- Another window should pop up. Under User Name:
- Barnard students: Fill in your Barnard ID and password (same as for eBear and Webmail).
- Columbia students: Fill in your Cubmail address and password.
- Click OK.
- If you are connecting to secure wireless for the first time, a window asking to Verify
Certificate will pop up. Click Show Certificate.
- Select Always trust "panoptes.barnard.edu" OR "arachne.barnard.edu". You should now be connected to the secure wireless
network. The next time you reconnect to a secure wireless, you will not need to verify the certificate again.
If a problem occurs and you are disconnected, turn off and then turn on airport before selecting "Barnard Quad" or the name of your dorm's secure wireless network again.
