She received her Licenciatura degree in Literature from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala and her M.A. in Multidisciplinary Cultural Studies from NYU. She is finishing a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature at The City University of New York (CUNY). Her dissertation focuses on Pre-Columbian Nahuatl poetry.
Although her fields of specialization are Pre-Columbian literatures and Latin American contemporary poetry, her literary pursuits have always been very eclectic and have covered a wide range of topics and periods from both sides of the Atlantic, including questions dealing with Latin American gender studies and cultural theories. She is particularly attracted to those theories that are rooted within the history of ideas of the Latin American continent and have made a conscious effort to distance themselves from Western ideological systems and methodological approaches.
She has published two poetry books: Destellos de verde azul and Reloj de arena.
At Barnard, she has been teaching language courses since 2004. |
