Owner and President of Liz Abzug Consultant Services, 1995-present

Strategic
development in planning, housing, real estate and health care;
preparation of budgets for community economic development project and
loan funds sponsored by state and local governments and not-for-profit
organizations throughout the United States; representation
of corporate clients in connection with crisis management, public
policy, government/community relations before city, state and Federal
agencies and Congress; development and implementation of business
development, management, marketing, fundraising, crisis intervention and
policy plans for not-for-profit and for profit organizations,
foundations, Federal agencies, and state and local governments located
in twelve different states in the United States; prepared business plans
for two new business incubators, one for Birmingham, Alabama and one for
Lower Manhattan after 9/11, the latter designed to address immediate
needs of small businesses in arts, design, new media and financial
services whose offices were destroyed with the World Trade Center
buildings. Formed a new 501-©(3)not for profit organization for
Leadership for young women and girls and raised $200,000 for the first
year of operations.
Director for Federal Affairs and Programs, New York State Office of Economic
Development, 1993-1995
- Chief lobbyist on behalf of New York State's four key economic development
agencies: Department of Economic Development, Urban Development Corporation, Job
Development Authority and the Science & Technology Foundation. Developed Federal
financial grant and loan proposals. Supervised the Federal Empowerment Zone application to
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and won $100 million in Federal
assistance for the Harlem and South Bronx communities. Interfaced with members of the New
York Congressional Delegation, Congressional legislative staff and counsel. Testified on
behalf of New York State before Congressional committees/subcommittees.
